About

Violinist and music teacher Melissa Martin currently teaches and performs in the Rochester area. She received her Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Bob Jones University and her Master's degree in Music Education from Boston University. Having taught private lessons in her studio as well as orchestra for over 12 years in public/private schools, she has experience working with students from age 5-85 who are at a variety of levels. She knows how to tailor the lesson to each student's individual personality, learning style, and goals.

Violin teacher

Melissa's primary instrument is violin. The first instrument that she learned to play was actually piano, but at the age of 10, she decided her true passion was violin. She was able to study under some amazing teachers such as Dr. Alberto Jaffe, a world renowned violinist and Andrew Zaplatynsky, concertmaster of Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. These teachers have had a profound impact on her love of performing as well as her approach to teaching. In addition to teaching, Melissa performs with Penfield Symphony Orchestra, Genesee Symphony Orchestra, and Brighton Symphony Orchestra.

Melissa also conducts StringNova, an orchestra for homeschoolers. StringNova is an educational program for beginning and intermediate string players who are currently studying violin, viola, cello, or bass.

In addition to teaching and performing violin, Melissa also enjoys teaching and performing viola as well as cello (up to Level IV). She also offers beginning piano lessons and beginning guitar lessons. Since she has experience teaching these instruments to elementary students, middle school students, high school students, and adults, no matter what your age, Melissa is able to help you learn to play these instruments and enjoy making music.

If you are interested in learning to play violin, viola, cello, piano, or guitar, contact Melissa today to get started with your music lessons!
